The Bluerock Band
at the Battle of the Blues Bands
2002 in Birmingham, AL

In the spring and early summer of 2002, The Bluerock Band practiced for several weeks preparing for the Battle of the Blues Bands to be held by the Magic City Blues Society in Birmingham, Alabama.  The winner would compete in the Internation Blues Challenge in Memphis.   We lost but we had fun performing.  When we attended the Blues Challenge in Memphis that year as spectators, we got to see Birmingham's winner and several other performers from all over the world.

For the competition, we originally had several songs planned but we had to trim down to just 5 songs, 2 of which I had written.  They're all blues songs except for one rock'n'roll cover tune.  These were recorded live that night by the house engineer who presented them to us later on a CD.  Recording quality leaves a lot to be desired but this is the only performance we ever recorded live.

Here's the song list:

The Songs
01-Aint Got You - Yardbirds.mp3 I Ain't Got You is an old Jimmy Reed song.  We played the Yardbirds version.

Lead singer: Robert O.  Lead guitar: Rick Jackson.  Rhythm guitar; Ron Vincent.  Harmonica: Ron Vincent.  Drums: John Vincent.  Backup vocals: Rick, Ron, John.
02-Just One More - Bluerock.mp3
Just One More Guitar Blues  is a song I wrote in response to the question, "How many guitars do you need?"  It's a common guitar enthusiast joke set to music.

03-Dont Count On Me - Bluerock.mp3 Don't Count On Me is another song I wrote about a man whose companion can actually count on.  It's a play on words.

Lead singer: Robert O.  Lead guitar: Rick Jackson.  Rhythm guitar: Ron Vincent.  Bass: Robert O.  Drums: John Vincent.  Backup vocals: Rick, Ron, John.
04-Spider and the Fly.mp3
Spider and the Fly was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.  The song appeared on their 1965 album "Out of Our Heads."
